Jimi Hendrix remembered

“I’m a million miles away, and at the same time I’m right here in your picture frame.” Jimi Hendrix, lyrics from “Voodoo Chile”

It was 40 years ago today that Jimi Hendrix was found dead in a London apartment. He was 27.

I was a young girl at the time, and I don’t remember hearing about his death at the time. But his music was something of an inspiration to me just a few years later, when as a teen I was an aspiring rock star.

His mastery of guitar and simple way of telling a story through his songs was something that I tried to imitate (without much success, lol). I could create phenomenal songs but the mastery of guitar is something that has eluded me, even though I used to practice for hours every day.

Of  course he looked much cooler than I ever could, too.

It is amazing that even though he died at such a young age, he left us with so much music. He was an innovator. He was unique – you cannot mistake his music for anyone else’s. To this day, he is one of the greatest rock musicians ever.

RIP, Jimi.
