My first beignets

I don’t know how many times I have walked by Cafe du Monde and never once thought of stopping for beignets and coffee. It just never occurred to me that I should.

But my friend, Ben, was shocked that I had never done it, so he persuaded me to have my first Cafe du Monde experience.

It was a lot of fun, and the beignets were warm and fluffy – and sweet. The black coffee helped cut the sugar and grease of the deep-fried treats.

Now that I’ve done it, I think I would do it again someday.  It was nice to watch the many people flowing in and out of the place to enjoy their moment in history and a New Orleans tradition.

  1. I’m with Ben: Never had a beignet? How’s that? The original place is in Metarie these days, but Cafe du Monde is fine. Nothing like it but it has to be hot and straight out of the cooker with that fabulous coffee. Can almost taste it!
