Loleatta Holloway, 1946-2011

Say the name Loleatta Holloway, and many people will look at you and say, “Who?”

But those same people most likely have heard her voice on many a pop, soul, R&B and disco songs.

Anyway, Loleatta died yesterday, and so I wanted to make a little tribute to her. I put together a selection of messages that went out on Twitter after her fans learned of her death.

She was known for the songs “Love Sensation,” “Hit and Run” and “Crash Goes Love.”

Her vocals have been sampled into quite a few of today’s hit songs, so many young people have heard her as well as us disco dinosaurs.

Thank you, Loleatta, for your gift of music. You will be remembered.
