I’ve been experimenting with a lot of different hummus recipes, changing out the main ingredient and seasonings that make fun and delicious new dishes that are nothing like the traditional Mediterranean dish.
What probably should have been obvious didn’t hit me until I was roaming the pantry looking for something to make to bring to a little party we were having.
When I spotted the black beans, I knew what I had to do.
Black bean hummus
2 cups cooked black beans
2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
1/4 cup tahini
1/2 teaspoon ancho chili powder
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
3/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, divided in half
Combine all ingredients, except half the cilantro in a food processor. Pulse until smooth and all ingredients are combined. Add a little water if needed. Pour into a serving bowl and stir in remaining cilantro. Serve with tortilla chips.
